Context and Reflection

During 7th grade year I learned different things in English class. The stuff I learned is using citation. I learned that using sources is important because people need to know where you get the information so people wouldn’t think you copy the whole information. For example during January I read a historical fiction using citation. I read a book call My Brother Sam is Dead and combined with The American Journey.  I learned how to write an focus questions for the topic, and the focus question of mine is “How historically accurate is the Collier brothers’ description of the Battle of Long Island compared to Appleby (et al) description?

My Piece

In My Brother Sam is Dead the Colliers’ description of the Battle of Long Island was fairly accurate when compared to Appleby (et al) description in The American Journey.  Both the Collier brothers and Appleby (et al) describe Long Island. The American Journey explains that British soldiers killed patriot soldiers,” A British officer wrote that many of the patriot soldiers killed on Long Island had not been wearing shoes, socks or jackets.”They are also in great want of blankets,” he said, predicting that the rebels would suffer during the winter”, (Appleby (et al) 156-157). Many Patriots were captured and put in prison also got sick and British would let them die. In My Brother Sam is Dead, Sam’s dad had to live like that too.” Those prison ship were terrible places - filthy and baking hot in summer and freezing in winter and of course nothing but slop to eat. They’d buried him someplace on Long Island,”(Collier brothers’ 165). Many people had to survive like that even Sam’s dad, Life. Life had to live there for two years. Diseases went around on ship. Although, Appleby (et al) adds details to make the fearfulness of the Battle of Long Island more dramatic, the description of the British as powerful and brutal does match Collier's’ brother description making it historically accurate.

My name is Blute Moo Soe Paw.  I think of myself this year as a thoughtful student. I think myself as a  student I have improved a lot with English because English is my second language so I have improved in my English and my writing.  This year in 7th grade I learned a lot more about using citation and using context and writing reflection. This year in English I learned a lot more than I did in 6th grade. This year I’ve improved a lot, because I learned how to be a better writer, I write more clearly and have more details describing the big idea if my writing.
