Shakespeare In Modern Culture
Shakespeare has his own unique language. His proof? In his plays. I think Shakespeare does influence modern culture. How does he influence modern culture? Through modern language. One example of how Shakespeare influenced modern culture is in the video “Insults By Shakespeare.” In the play “Romeo and Juliet”, Shakespeare uses the insult of biting your thumb. You must be thinking “How is that an insult.” well back in Shakespeare’s time biting your thumb was like flicking someone off. and even if how it was done changed it still is used in the same way. Another Example of is the word Swagger from the video “10 Words Shakespeare Invented.” The word which is used a lot in today’s culture first appeared in Shakespeare’s play “a Midsummer night's dream. In the play the word did not mean you were cool like in today’s culture. It was used to describe a foolish man. This connects because even though the meaning changed the word is still very much alive. As you can see Shakespeare really did influence modern culture today’s language and culture.
