Why I chose this piece
The reason I picked this slice of life as my final exam is, it’s shows off my writing with show don’t tell. I picked this piece because, it was one of the most exciting moments of my life. Also, because this story was one activity I choose to do during my first sleep away camp. By revising this, it helps me see that sometimes my words don’t flow and I had to fix some.
My first time going to a sleepover camp I wanted to try everything. One of the things they had there was a thing called the blob. It’s where someone jumps off a ten foot tall deck onto the blob and the person on the other blob gets flung into the water. I had never done anything like that before and I was nervous and excited at the same time. There were five people in front of me about to jump of the deck. A lot of the girls had to get talked into it before they could jump. It was probably the worst day to do this but I just couldn’t wait. I am next. The girl in front of me is on the deck but she gets too scared so she comes down the steps crying. Wow, I thought. I didn’t think it would look that high up there. It’s my turn. As I climb the steps, the blob gets smaller and smaller. I can see why the girl in front of me was so scared. The woman at the top of the stairs asked if I was ready. If I thought about it too much, I might back down so I just said yes. We were at the very edge of the deck. I never know you could be so excited and scared at the same time! The woman counted to three and I jumped. It was so much fun. It didn’t even hurt when I landed. I bounced the person who was on the blob pretty far into the lake. Now It was my turn to get blobbed. I crawled to the end of the blob. I curled up into to a ball and waited. You never know when the are going to jump. When I was in the middle of thinking how high I would go, I am suddenly in the air. I suddenly hit the icey cold water. Wow was that fun. I don't even know why I was scared in the first place. As I am swimming to shore, I see everyone clapping. The blob was so much fun I couldn’t wait to do it again!
